Camp Counselor/Band Support

*Girl and women-identified folks. No music experience necessary; some is helpful. Leadership position

Counselor-coaches serve as mentors for assigned groups of girls, which involves participating in games and skits, making sure the campers are where they need to be at all times, accompanying them between classrooms, and offering advice and help throughout the day. While campers are in their band practices, coach-counselors provide help and guidance in all aspects of working as a collaborative creative team: setting up, tuning, songwriting, learning how to play together, figuring out stage moves, etc. The coaches may also be called upon to mediate band disputes, as well as note specific positive behaviors for later recognition. Those with little or minimal musical experience are empowered to apply, and will be paired with a multi-instrumentalist. Apply here. Back to top.

Instrument Instructor & Band Coach

(Electric Guitar, Electric Bass, Drum Kit, Keyboards, Vocals, Turntables) *Girl and women-identified folk. Music experience required. Leadership position.

Our campers will possess a varying range of skill levels – some have been playing for years, many have never touched a musical instrument in their lives. Instructors are responsible for working with other teachers to plan lessons, teaching and creating a supportive learning environment for the campers. Classes will likely involve a combination of team-teaching a group of 5-10 girls and solo teaching in smaller groups with occasional one-on-one instruction.

On the first day of camp the campers form bands with each band assigned 2 band coaches. The coaches provide help and guidance in all aspects of working as a collaborative creative team: setting up, tuning, songwriting, learning how to play together, figuring out stage moves, etc. The coaches may also be called upon to mediate band disputes, as well as note specific positive behaviors for later recognition. Apply here. Back to top.

Workshop Leader

*Girl and women-identified folks. No music experience necessary. Leadership position

We will offer a range of workshops throughout the week. Topics may include: self-defense, basic music theory & songwriting, media literacy, team-building, conflict resolution, “image vs. identity”, history of women in music, booking & music biz, amps & sound tech, and making band art (silkscreening, photography, etc.). We need people with expertise in these areas to help develop and teach a one-hour workshop to three groups of campers divided by age, with approximately 18 girls per session. We also need folks to help adapt curriculum for different age groups. Workshops will typically involve co- and/or team-teaching. Apply here. Back to top.

Equipment Point and Roadies

*No music experience necessary.

Roadies are vital! We need folks to help set up, break down, and move equipment throughout the week. Responsibilities include setting up the camp site, reconfiguring rooms for band practice every day, helping with load-in/out on showcase days, etc. Head roadies are needed, people who can be at camp for all or most days and provide continuity throughout the week. Apply here. Back to top.

Receptionist

*No music experience necessary

From the front desk, the receptionist assists with the check-in and out of campers every day, monitors visitors, coordinates in-camp communication, gives directions, answers questions, files camp paperwork, organized daily attendance sheet and sells merch. Apply here. Back to top.

Food Coordinator

*No music experience necessary
Fuel the movement! Girls Rock! DC is seeking one to two volunteer food coordinators to run food operations during the week of camp. This is an extremely important volunteer position, without which camp cannot happen. Camp is July 27-31.

About the volunteer job:

Before camp week, you will solicit food donations from area restaurants.

During camp week you will organize helpers in assembling and distributing camper lunches, organizing camper snacks, and putting out donated food and coffee for the volunteers.

Who should apply: This position is open to all genders. While it is helpful to have been at camp before, it is not at all necessary. This is a great way for a non-musician to get involved, as well as an ideal position for those who prefer not to work directly with children. A car is a plus but one may also be available for borrowing if needed.

Time commitment: This job is for camp week (July 27-31), including the weekend before and after for prep and breakdown. The 2 days before camp will involve several hours of buying supplies and setting up your kitchen kingdom for the week. At least one coordinator needs to be on site at all times during camp week (9-5). Camp breakdown occurs on Aug 1, but you may want to spent a couple of hours after that time organizing your records and supplies. After that, year-round involvement is possible if you’re interested.

Resources for you: You have at your disposal excellent and thorough files from the previous coordinator, who was extremely organized. You’ll be given a budget based on past spending and a credit card to use at Costco etc. A leadership team member with previous food experience will partner with you and be available to answer any questions. Apply here. Back to top.

Food/Kitchen Team

Under the guidance of the Food Coordinator and Food Committee, pick up food donations, do supply runs, and provide support to the kitchen crew as needed. Help with snack and lunch preparation, help with kitchen clean-up, make everyone happy by keeping them nourished. Apply here. Back to top.

Childcare

*No music experience necessary

Look after the young children of volunteers (and possibly campers) onsite during the camp week. Keep kids safe, entertained and happy! (Parents will be on site.) Apply here. Back to top.

Licensed Nurse

*No music experience necessary

We are in need of licensed nurses to be on-site during the camp week, just in case! Apply here. Back to top.

Licensed Clinical Counselor

Our curriculum covers conflict resolution and team-building, but we need licensed counselors to be on-site during the camp week, for the occasions that campers have personal issues arise and will need to talk to someone and/or be referred to services elsewhere. Apply here. Back to top.

Showcase Volunteer

*No music experience necessary

Working merch and info tables, selling tickets, folding programs, helping all aspects of the showcase concert run smoothly. Key to ensuring that showcase concert runs smoothly and all attendees enjoy the show. Apply here. Back to top.
