WASHINGTON , D.C. — Girls Rock! DC, a local non-profit aimed at establishing a supportive and creative space for girls to develop their self-confidence through musical instruction and performance, is hosting their eighth annual week-long music camp this July. The camp will run daily from Monday, July 27 through Friday, July 31 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and will be held at the British School of Washington in Northwest Washington, DC.

Over the course of the week, a volunteer-only staff provide campers with instruction on electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, vocals, turntables and digital music production. Campers form bands, and are coached by musicians to collaborate,  write and perform original songs and DJ sets. After just one week, the girls will showcase their new skills by performing  their original works at a major local music venue the morning of Saturday, August 1. The showcase is open to the public, and ticketing information will be announced soon.

Campers also attend workshops covering a variety of topics–such as Media Literacy, Team Building and Stage Presence and Performance–outside of music instruction. These workshops are focused on helping campers develop specific skills used at camp and in their daily lives, develop and increase their self-esteem, and feel part of a community of women in music. The camp gives young women a uniquely supportive environment to create both music and a healthy self-image.

Girls Rock! DC welcomes campers ages 8-18 who self-identify as female, trans, and gender non-conforming, from all four quadrants of DC, Maryland and Virginia. Financial aid funds funds are available for a significant percentage of campers.  The camp welcomes campers interested in all musical genres, including DJing. No musical experience is necessary to participate in Girls Rock! DC’s programs

We invite the media to attend one day during camp on Media Day, Thursday, July 30.
